Chief Accountant

About the role

Careers International is hiring a Chief Accountant in Dubai within the hospitality and catering sector. The role covers preparing revenue positions and expenditure forecasts, reconciling accounts payable and receivable, producing accurate accounting reports, advising management accountants, mentoring junior staff and supporting the month-end and year-end close.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare revenue positions and forecast expenditure; verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
• Generate error-free accounting reports, analyse financial information and summarise the financial status.
• Prepare federal, local and special tax returns, and assist with tax audits and returns.
• Review and recommend improvements to accounting systems and procedures, and give input on accounting issues and goal setting.
• Plan, assign, monitor and mentor junior staff, clerks and bookkeepers.
• Participate in financial forecasting and help prepare financial statements versus budget on schedule.
• Initiate and assist internal and external audits, and oversee the month-end and year-end close.
• Develop and document SOPs and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls, and liaise with owners and the finance manager.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor or chief accountant.
• 6-10 years of work experience in the hospitality or F&B industry preferred.
• MBA or M.Com qualification.
• Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently, with strong communication skills and aptitude for numbers and analysis.

Required skills

• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and GAAP.
• Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close.
• SAP, FOCUS or similar software is a must; hands-on experience with QuickBooks and ProAdvisor.
• Advanced MS Excel, including pivot tables.
