Consultant, Counsellor Psychosocial Support – Africa Region

About the role

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) seeks a qualified Psychosocial Support Consultant to provide confidential counselling and mental‑health services to staff and volunteers across the Africa region.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual counselling sessions on request, ensuring strict confidentiality.
• Conduct briefings, debriefings and critical‑incident debriefings for staff, both individually and in groups.
• Develop and maintain a secure file‑management system in coordination with the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing (OHSW) unit.
• Provide training, webinars or workshops on stress management and psychological support topics.
• Contribute to regular PSS reporting, statistics and annual reporting while preserving client confidentiality.
• Participate in regular PSP virtual meetings and ensure timely upload of statistics.
• Support the development of guidelines and SOPs related to staff wellbeing.

Required profile

• University degree in Psychology or Psychotherapy with professional licence; training in psycho‑traumatology or critical‑incident debriefing is preferred.
• Experience managing trauma cases, critical incidents and providing counselling in non‑native languages.
• Background in international humanitarian settings, multicultural teams and the Red Cross Red Crescent movement.
• Fluent spoken and written English; French is desirable.
• Availability for short‑notice field visits and out‑of‑hours support.
