Psychosocial Support Consultant – Americas Region

About the role

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) seeks a qualified Psychologist or Psychotherapist to provide confidential psychosocial support to staff and volunteers across the Americas region. The consultant will work under the Psychological Support Programme (PSP) of the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual counselling sessions and group briefings/debriefings on request, maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Provide critical‑incident debriefings and support for staff in the field, including short‑term missions as defined in the Terms of Reference.
• Develop and maintain a secure file‑management system in collaboration with the OHSW unit.
• Design and deliver training, webinars or workshops on stress management and psychological support.
• Contribute to PSP reporting, statistics and annual reporting while safeguarding client confidentiality.

Required profile

• University degree in Psychology or Psychotherapy with professional licensure; training in psycho‑traumatology or critical incident debriefing is preferred.
• Experience managing trauma cases, critical incidents and providing counselling in a non‑native language.
• Background in international humanitarian settings, multicultural teams and the Red Cross Red Crescent movement.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Spanish; additional languages are a plus.
• Availability for short‑notice field visits and out‑of‑hours support as needed.
