Consultant Physician – Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

About the role

The Consultant Physician in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry leads the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based mental health care for children and teenagers. This senior clinician is expected to model clinical excellence, supervise junior staff, and contribute to the strategic development of the department.

Key responsibilities

• Implement hospital, departmental and divisional policies and support performance‑management initiatives, including peer review and productivity monitoring.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment, and ensuring continuous medical coverage.
• Oversee clinical activities of junior medical staff, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
• Diagnose, treat, and manage patients according to best‑practice standards, documenting care promptly and accurately.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and adjust treatment plans based on investigation results.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and coordinate with other specialties and support services.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.
• Communicate clinical information to patients, families, and team members with appropriate consent.
