Data Engineer

About the role

Deriv is hiring a Data Engineer in Dubai to build and govern data pipelines that power trading decisions, product analytics, compliance and AI/ML systems across a global fintech. The role spans trading and product analytics, compliance and regulatory reporting, and business intelligence, with placement depending on team needs. It is full time.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and real-time workloads, using AI-assisted development
• Bake in observability: freshness checks, completeness monitoring, schema drift detection, lineage tracking and alerting
• Automate data quality checks and anomaly detection in every pipeline
• Own data accuracy, resolving issues before they reach analysts or stakeholders
• Define and maintain data contracts (SLAs, SLOs, schema agreements) and handle PII, access control and auditability in a regulated environment
• Optimise warehouse performance and cost, and build scalable data models such as dimensional modelling and semantic layers
• Partner with analysts, product, finance and compliance teams, and peer-review pipeline code
• Help onboard new engineers and share learnings

Required profile

• 2-8 years in data engineering; knows SQL and data quality, not just writing queries
• Cloud data stack knowledge (GCP, BigQuery, Airflow, Python) and experience with batch and streaming pipelines
• Experience with dbt or Dataform
• Uses AI coding assistants daily
• Strong data modelling knowledge (Kimball star schema, Data Vault, Medallion); data contract frameworks or schema registries are a plus
• Fintech, trading or compliance background is a strong plus
