Dean of Learning and Teaching

About the role

The Sharjah Maritime Academy is seeking a senior academic leader to drive its learning and teaching strategy. Reporting to the Provost and Vice‑Chancellor Academic, the Dean will shape innovative curricula and enhance the digital learning ecosystem across the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Provost and Vice‑Chancellor Academic in achieving strategic academic goals.
• Lead implementation of the Academy’s educational strategy, integrating innovative curricula and leveraging laboratory and library resources.
• Develop academic frameworks and a robust digital learning ecosystem for campus‑based, hybrid, and online programmes.
• Collaborate with College Deans, Program Heads, Institutional Effectiveness and business partners to ensure programmes meet maritime industry standards.
• Monitor compliance with UAE Ministry of Education standards and drive continuous improvement.
• Champion research‑informed, industry‑aligned teaching and support professional development for academic staff.
• Provide tailored support to faculty to enhance instructional methods and accommodate diverse student needs.
• Travel as required and work occasional extended hours.

Required profile

• PhD in Education or a related field (essential).
• Recognised qualification for teaching in higher education (essential).
• Relevant industry body affiliation or membership (essential).
• Minimum 5 years of academic leadership experience in higher education, with proven change‑management success.
• Experience in large‑scale improvement projects, curriculum development and academic support.
• Familiarity with UAE higher‑education policies, standards and accreditation bodies.

Required skills

• Fluent written and spoken English at a professional level.
• Strong teamwork, cultural sensitivity and ability to work under pressure.
• Deep knowledge of digital learning technologies and pedagogical best practices.
