Lead Commissioning Engineer – Electrical & Instrumentation

About the role

KBR is expanding its Project Management Consultancy team for a high‑profile offshore development in Abu Dhabi. The Lead Commissioning Engineer will direct all electrical and instrumentation commissioning activities for the WHT’s Subsea Cable project, ensuring safe and efficient handover from construction to operation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead commissioning teams, develop strategies, schedules and procedures, and monitor progress against milestones.
• Manage pre‑commissioning walkdowns, mechanical completion verification, cable continuity, insulation resistance and loop testing.
• Oversee energisation, start‑up, functional testing and system integration for HV, MV, LV, DCS, ESD, PLC, SCADA, safety instrumented systems and telecommunications.
• Coordinate with engineering, construction, QA/QC, vendors and client representatives to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth handover.
• Ensure full compliance with HSE requirements, conduct risk assessments, PTW, LOTO and promote a strong safety culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or related engineering discipline.
• 18‑22 years of commissioning experience in oil & gas, offshore, LNG or EPC projects, with at least 5 years in a lead role.
• Previous exposure to ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy or similar major operators is preferred.
• Relevant certifications such as PMP, BOSIET/HUET, IEC 61511, CompEx, NEBOSH or Commissioning Management are advantageous.

Required skills

• Commissioning of high, medium and low voltage power systems, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, UPS, emergency power and diesel generators.
• Experience with cathodic protection, earthing, lightning protection, electrical heat tracing and offshore distribution networks.
• Proficiency in DCS, ESD, PLC, SCADA, fire & gas detection, HIPPS, SIS, telecommunications, fiber‑optic communication and ICSS.
• Ability to prepare energisation plans, conduct functional and cause‑and‑effect testing, and manage system integration.
