Legal Counsel - Wholesale Banking (UAE National Only)

About the role

Mashreq is looking for a Legal Counsel for its Wholesale Banking group in Dubai, open only to UAE nationals. The role provides legal support on banking and finance transactions such as bilateral and syndicated loans, structured finance, cross-border and multi-jurisdictional matters and specialist banking products. It operates with significant autonomy, covering the Corporate & Investment Banking and International Banking Group, and contributes to legal policy and bank-wide initiatives including digital transformation.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and review financing documentation, including LMA-based agreements and security packages, under the supervision of senior legal counsel
• Provide sound legal advice on wholesale banking products, transactions and matters, and assist senior lawyers in advice and research
• Assist in negotiations with counterparties, obligors and third parties
• Contribute to bank-wide initiatives and wholesale banking legal projects, including digital transformation, with active engagement across international offices
• Develop and implement legal policies, procedures and templates
• Undertake legal research on banking and finance laws, regulations, cases and topics
• Identify legal risks, ensure compliance with banking and financial regulations and support risk mitigation
• Review documents establishing customer capacity and due authority (POA, articles and by-laws, resolutions, commercial license, certificate of incumbency)
• Provide legal input on new products, services, operational strategies and governance
• Manage own matters and deliverables, keeping accurate records of advice and documentation

Required profile

• Emirati national with a law degree from a reputable university
• Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience in banking and finance law, preferably at a top-tier law firm
• Admission to practice law in a recognized jurisdiction
• Fluent English and Arabic, with strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, multicultural environment
