Marine Superintendent

About the role

AD Ports Group is hiring a Marine Superintendent in Abu Dhabi. The main purpose of the role is to ensure safe vessel operations and compliance with all international marine requirements, including supporting the Safety Management System and carrying out regular ship inspections against the ISM and ISPS codes.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor day-to-day ship operations so that sea and port activities run smoothly, without delay or accidents.
• Keep vessel certifications valid and ensure reporting and documentation comply with ISM, ISPS, OHSAS 18000 and ISO 14001, including drill, ACT and safety meeting reports.
• Provide navigational data to avoid hazards and ensure weekly, cumulative and annual chart and publication corrections are available on board.
• Maintain the SMS with consistent improvement, identify safety risks and environmental impacts, and raise corrective actions where needed.
• Brief shipboard senior officers before they join vessels on safety management systems, company policies, operations and charterer requirements.
• Work with the technical superintendent to control port and charterer requirements, carry out internal audits per the HSE plan, and prepare for audits efficiently.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, mechanical engineering or another technical discipline.
• At least 5 years of sea-going experience, including a minimum of 4 years in shipping or offshore.
• Sea-going experience as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer with at least Class 2 certification; minimum one year as Tech Superintendent or Chief/2nd Engineer on offshore supply or dive support vessels.
• Minimum Class 3 Certificate of Competency (COC).
• Fluent English; Arabic is an asset.

Required skills

• Good knowledge of ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
• MS Office, especially Excel.
• Experience guiding and evaluating subordinates, and strong organization and communication skills.
• Detailed attention and proactive teamwork.
