Mechanical Design Engineer – Industrial Refrigeration

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specialized in industrial refrigeration to join our forward‑thinking engineering team. You will own the full design lifecycle for large‑scale cooling projects across industrial, commercial and recreational sectors, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical and refrigeration design for industrial, recreational and commercial applications, including cold storage, food processing, snow parks and HVAC ventilation systems.
• Develop and verify system specifications, block flow diagrams, layouts, P&IDs and design review packages.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations such as heat load, thermal analysis, pipe stress, vibration, seismic and equipment support design.
• Manage BIM workflows in line with ISO 19650, BS 1192 and PAS 1192‑5, coordinating LOD requirements and conducting clash detection.
• Prepare BOQ/BOM, conduct value engineering and support IFC submissions.
• Select and approve equipment, coordinate with internal teams and incorporate design review comments.
• Produce O&M manuals and contribute to sustainability, ERP and lifecycle documentation.
• Provide guidance, review work of other designers and help develop design standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical or refrigeration design.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Commitment to integrity, safety and high‑quality engineering delivery.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Revit MEP, Navisworks, AutoCAD and BIM 360.
• Experience using Microsoft Office for engineering documentation.
• Deep understanding of refrigeration design, heat transfer and equipment function.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and P&IDs.
• Knowledge of BIM standards ISO 19650, BS 1192 and PAS 1192‑5.
• Competence in performing heat‑load calculations, thermal analysis, pipe‑stress, vibration and seismic assessments.
