Midwife - Labour and Delivery

About the role

American Hospital Dubai is hiring a Midwife for its Labour and Delivery Unit. The midwife provides direct and indirect, age-specific care to patients on scheduled shifts, covering nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation and care coordination within the Joint Commission International (JCI) framework.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and monitor the physical and psychological needs of patients and families
• Coordinate and plan care, revise care plans and initiate transfer plans where needed
• Document data in the medical record and maintain supplies and equipment
• Handle narcotic and controlled drugs safely and follow unit competencies such as pain management and emergency device use
• Take part in unit meetings, quality improvement activities and mandatory education
• Perform labour and delivery procedures such as amniotic fluid assessment, amniotomy assistance, placental examination and forceps delivery assistance
• Preceptors: run competency-based orientations, give timely feedback and document objectively

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Midwifery (at least 3 years) or Nursing (at least 3 years) plus a Midwifery Certificate (at least 1 year), or an Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or the USA (at least 2 years)
• Successful completion of the National exam and Midwifery Certificate; UAE nationals are exempt from experience and clinical training requirements
• Valid license to practice in the home country or last place of employment
• Minimum of 2 years of recent post-graduate experience in a Labour and Delivery Unit
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or other certification matching the scope of practice
