Optomechanical Engineer

About the role

EDGE is seeking an experienced Opto‑Mechanical Design Engineer to create high‑performance opto‑mechanical components and systems for advanced optical applications. The role covers concept development, analysis, prototyping and validation using state‑of‑the‑art 3D CAD and simulation tools.

Key responsibilities

• Develop opto‑mechanical concepts and detailed 3D CAD models for innovative systems.
• Perform tolerance, thermal, structural and optical analyses using appropriate engineering tools.
• Design, document and support testing of precision opto‑mechanical components and assemblies.
• Participate in design reviews, troubleshoot issues and drive continuous improvement of existing products.
• Generate data packs and technical artefacts for manufactured optical components.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in opto‑mechanical system design and development.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a collaborative mindset.
• Excellent communication, documentation and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
• Experience using simulation platforms like ANSYS.
• Knowledge of optical modelling software (Zemax is a plus).
• Ability to conduct mechanical, thermal, structural and vibration analyses.
• Familiarity with integration of optical components into mechanical assemblies and design for manufacturability.
