Port Captain – Africa

About the role

The Port Captain will oversee offshore support vessels operating in Africa, ensuring safe and efficient operations while maintaining crew welfare and regulatory compliance. This full‑time position is based in Dubai with a 2‑month on/off rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor vessel budgets for provisions and housekeeping supplies and ensure timely requisitions.
• Maintain communication between captains, crew and office staff, promoting safety and well‑being.
• Conduct technical interviews, select and brief deck officers, and manage crew hand‑overs.
• Coordinate travel, crew changes and overlap days with the Personnel Department.
• Inspect vessels monthly, covering hull, cargo spaces, deck machinery and safety equipment.
• Prepare repair specifications with engineering, ensure DP and navigational equipment readiness, and adhere to IMCA guidelines.
• Lead internal audits, manage classification and flag‑state surveys, and report drill results.

Required profile

• Master Mariner qualification.
• Sea‑going experience as Master/Captain on offshore support vessels.
• 2‑3 years experience as a Port Captain or in a similar role.

Required skills

• Dynamic positioning (DP) operations and equipment management.
• Knowledge of IMCA best practices and industry standards.
• Vessel certification, classification and regulatory compliance.
• Navigation equipment operation and maintenance.
