Primary Music Teacher - PYP Early Years (Jan 2027)

About the role

GEMS Modern Academy is looking for a full-time Music Teacher for its Primary PYP Early Years programme, starting January 2027. The school aims to provide a holistic, safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive academically, socially and emotionally, and the teacher plays a central part in developing their creative and musical abilities.

Key responsibilities

• Create engaging, age-appropriate music lessons covering singing, listening, movement, rhythm, musical vocabulary and basic instrumental skills, using play-based, experiential and hands-on strategies
• Differentiate activities to each child's abilities and learning needs, and integrate music with classroom themes and Units of Inquiry
• Plan, prepare and produce an annual Early Years/KG1 and KG2 music performance or concert, and help with school-wide events, assemblies and productions
• Support rehearsals, accompaniment, ensemble work, choreography and musical direction, and manage repertoire, rehearsals and performances
• Maintain a positive, well-managed learning environment and act as a positive musical role model

Required profile

• Piano proficiency to about Grade 5 standard, with enough fluency to accompany singing and classroom activities; playing by ear and transposing simple songs
• Strong vocal and singing skills, and the ability to adapt music to young learners
• Enthusiasm, patience and creativity when working with young children, plus good communication with parents and colleagues
• Willingness to take responsibility for projects and performances and to support wider school productions

Required skills

• Specialisation or proficiency in a second instrument such as guitar, ukulele, violin, percussion or Orff/classroom instruments is an advantage
• Experience with Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze or other Early Years music methods, and with classroom percussion, ukulele, guitar or violin
• Basic use of music technology and digital resources, and ability to make simple arrangements and backing tracks
• Experience with diverse learners and students with additional learning needs is an advantage
