Principal Consultant – Development Engineering & Investment Screening

About the role

The Principal Consultant will support the International Gas and LNG Business Development and Asset Management teams, providing end‑to‑end leadership across the investment lifecycle. The role ensures new opportunities are technically credible, commercially robust and executable, while safeguarding long‑term shareholder value, HSE performance and ESG outcomes for non‑operated assets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical evaluation of new investment opportunities, including acquisitions, farm‑ins and infrastructure access, and challenge proposals to ensure they are investable and resilient.
• Act as the senior investor representative on non‑operated joint ventures, reviewing operator work programmes, budgets, production forecasts and capital projects.
• Apply deep engineering judgement to facilities, integrity and major projects, challenging design basis and execution plans to avoid value erosion.
• Ensure governance, assurance and escalation of material technical, HSE, cost or schedule risks across the portfolio.
• Build trusted relationships with operators, co‑investors, regulators and host authorities, representing the investor in JV committees and strategic forums.

Required profile

• Extensive senior experience in upstream and/or midstream oil & gas development, facilities, process, operations and asset integrity.
• Proven ability to manage new deals and acquired assets with a strong commercial mindset and to constructively challenge partners while maintaining relationships.
• Experience working in complex, multicultural, multi‑partner JV environments.
• Strategic commercial thinking combined with deep technical credibility and a strong HSE/ESG focus.
