Principal Control Systems Engineer - Street Lighting

About the role

Zutari designs transport systems connecting people and enabling trade across Africa and the Middle East. It is seeking a Principal Control Systems Engineer to lead the control systems engineering scope of a major street lighting project in Dubai. The role covers design review, validation, testing and commissioning support of the PLMS, CMS, control centre integration and associated lighting control systems.

Key responsibilities

• Review and oversee the design of PLMS components, CMS and the control centre, and associated lighting control systems
• Assess and validate network planning for PLMS gateway deployment across the street lighting network
• Witness and evaluate functional testing of PLMS and CMS, and validate logic sequences, dimming functions and fail-safe operations
• Ensure reliable integration between field devices, gateways, central monitoring systems and control centre platforms
• Support coordination with electrical, ICT/communications, commissioning and operations teams, and identify design risks early
• Review contractor and vendor submittals, method statements, FAT/SAT documentation and commissioning records
• Provide technical leadership during installation, testing, commissioning and handover, and take part in technical meetings with clients, contractors and suppliers
• Support technical reports, review comments, punch lists and close-out documentation

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years' experience in control systems engineering, with strong exposure to street lighting, smart lighting or urban infrastructure
• Demonstrated experience in lighting control systems, PLMS, CMS and centralised control/monitoring environments
• Proven track record in design review, systems validation, functional testing and commissioning support
• Experience with network planning and gateway deployment for distributed control systems
• Previous experience on large municipal, transport or infrastructure projects strongly preferred; Middle East or Dubai/UAE project experience highly desirable
• Bachelor's degree in electrical, control systems, electronics or a related discipline; professional registration preferred
