Principal Electrical Engineer – Data Centre

About the role

The Principal Electrical Engineer will be the power systems authority for mission‑critical data centre projects in the MENA region, delivering end‑to‑end electrical design, coordination and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the complete electrical system design for MV/LV distribution, substation architecture, UPS, generators, busbar trunking, earthing and lightning protection.
• Define power architecture, utility strategy and redundancy philosophy (N, N+1, N+2, 2N) in line with Uptime Tier III/IV standards.
• Perform power system studies using ETAP or equivalent, including load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, arc‑flash and harmonics analysis.
• Coordinate mechanical, structural and fire‑protection interfaces, review AutoCAD and BIM (Revit) models, and resolve cross‑discipline conflicts.
• Engage with clients, utilities (DEWA, ADDC, FEWA) and multidisciplinary teams to present designs, support procurement and oversee construction and commissioning.

Required profile

• 8+ years of electrical engineering experience, at least 5 years in data centre or mission‑critical facilities.
• Proven track record designing MV/LV systems, HT/MV switchgear (AIS/GIS), UPS, generators and high‑density AI power solutions.
• Deep knowledge of UAE utility approval processes and PUE compliance under Dubai Universal Blueprint.
• Experience mentoring engineers and developing internal design guidelines.

Required skills

• ETAP (or equivalent power analysis tool) – load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, arc‑flash, harmonics.
• AutoCAD and BIM (Revit) modelling at LOD350.
• Design standards: TIA‑942, IEC/IEEE/IS, Uptime Institute Tier III/IV.
• Power distribution design: MV/LV switchgear, AIS/GIS, busbar trunking, earthing, lightning protection.
• High‑density data centre power: 40‑100 kW per rack, rack‑level busway, 48 V DC architecture.
