Principal Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Worley is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead static equipment engineering across FEED, EPC and detailed design phases for major oil & gas or petrochemical projects in Abu Dhabi. The role provides technical leadership, ensures compliance with international and ADNOC standards, and drives integration with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all static equipment engineering activities from concept through detailed design.
• Design, specify and procure pressure vessels, columns, heat exchangers, tanks, separators, filters, reactors and package equipment.
• Develop and review datasheets, specifications, material requisitions, technical bids and vendor documentation.
• Ensure compliance with ADNOC standards, ASME, API, TEMA and ASTM codes.
• Coordinate with Process, Piping, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation and Procurement disciplines.
• Review and approve vendor drawings, calculations, manufacturing procedures and inspection plans.
• Support constructability reviews, value‑engineering studies and cost‑optimization initiatives.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOP sessions, constructability workshops and client technical meetings.
• Mentor and supervise a team of Specialists, Senior Engineers and Engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related engineering discipline (or equivalent).
• 15+ years of experience in oil & gas or petrochemical industry.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the GCC region, preferably on large‑scale projects.
• At least 5 years in a senior/static equipment engineering leadership role, managing multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Static equipment design and specification (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, etc.).
• Knowledge of ADNOC standards, ASME, API, TEMA and ASTM codes.
• Experience with FEED, EPC and detailed engineering processes.
• Vendor evaluation, technical bid assessment and procurement support.
• Participation in HAZOP and constructability workshops.
