Project Engineer – Construction & Project Management

About the role

ABYAT, a large retail store in the Middle East offering home improvement products, is looking for a Project Engineer in Dubai. The role supports and manages end-to-end construction, fit-out and development projects, especially commercial and retail properties, combining hands-on site construction experience with project management.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor day-to-day construction and fit-out work, ensuring it follows approved drawings, specifications, schedules, quality standards and contracts
• Coordinate contractors, consultants, suppliers and stakeholders; conduct site inspections and progress meetings
• Review method statements, submittals, shop drawings, RFIs and technical documentation
• Support or lead projects from planning and design coordination through construction, testing, commissioning, handover and closeout
• Develop and track schedules, budgets, milestones and deliverables; maintain risk registers and project reports
• Ensure compliance with Dubai building codes, regulations and authority requirements, including NOCs, permits and inspections
• Review contractor claims, variations and extension-of-time requests, and support value engineering and cost control

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture or a related field
• PMP certification strongly preferred
• Minimum 5-8 years of construction and project management experience, with significant experience in Dubai/UAE
• Proven hands-on site construction experience
• Experience with commercial, retail, showroom or mall projects, and with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Defence

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Dubai building codes, permitting and regulatory requirements
• Good practical understanding of FIDIC contracts
• Project planning, cost control, risk and quality management, and project reporting
