Propulsion System Engineer Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)

About the role

LODD Autonomous is seeking a senior Propulsion System Engineer specialized in internal combustion engines to lead the design and integration of ICE systems within hybrid eVTOL UAVs. The role focuses on delivering efficient, reliable, and certified powertrain solutions for next‑generation aerial platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and integration of internal combustion engine, fuel, cooling, exhaust, and mechanical interfaces into hybrid eVTOL architecture.
• Optimize engine performance for efficiency, weight, reliability and operational envelope.
• Collaborate with aerodynamics, structures, avionics and flight‑control teams.
• Develop system requirements, architectures and verification/validation strategies following ARP4754.
• Conduct safety assessments (FHA, FTA, FMEA) in line with ARP4761 and ensure compliance with CS‑UAS, CS‑VTOL, CS‑23, CS‑E, CS‑P.
• Plan and execute testing programmes, analyse data and iterate designs.
• Support certification activities, documentation and interaction with authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related engineering.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in aircraft propulsion or engine integration.
• Proven experience on certified aerospace projects and regulatory compliance.
• Strong knowledge of piston/internal combustion engines and fuel systems.
• Hands‑on experience in testing, integration and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with hybrid propulsion systems is a strong plus.
