Registered Nurse – II Postnatal Unit

About the role

The Postnatal Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to mothers and newborns during the postpartum period, ensuring a safe transition from childbirth to recovery. Working in a world‑class women’s and children’s hospital, the nurse delivers evidence‑based, compassionate care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and monitor mothers’ physical condition after delivery, including vital signs, pain levels, uterine involution and overall recovery.
• Monitor newborn health status—feeding, weight, temperature, elimination patterns and general well‑being.
• Identify and promptly report maternal or neonatal complications such as postpartum hemorrhage, infection, jaundice or respiratory distress.
• Provide breastfeeding support and education, assisting with positioning, latching techniques and feeding schedules.
• Educate parents on newborn care, including bathing, cord care, safe‑sleep practices and signs of illness.
• Administer prescribed medications, treatments and immunizations according to physician orders and hospital policies.
• Support mothers emotionally, screen for postpartum depression and anxiety, and refer as needed.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, interventions and outcomes.
• Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
• Promote infection‑prevention practices and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a valid licensure and experience in postnatal care.
