Respiratory Therapist

About the role

This position provides respiratory care to patients of all ages using accepted procedures and techniques. It covers routine respiratory care, interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory data, administration of therapy, and safe transport of patients requiring airway management or mechanical ventilation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient assessment and routine respiratory care procedures
• Interpret diagnostic information and clinical laboratory data and administer appropriate therapy
• Apply technical specifications of respiratory therapy equipment and modalities
• Evaluate oxygenation and ventilatory status and set and maintain ventilatory parameters
• Safely transport patients needing airway management or mechanical ventilation
• Work with respiratory care practitioners, nurses and physicians to ensure continuity of care
• Keep charts and records complete and accurate, and report changes in patient status to the physician or nursing staff
• Change equipment according to department policy and perform invasive respiratory therapy procedures
• Maintain current knowledge of respiratory care and hold mandatory life support certifications (ACLS, NRP, BLS, PALS) where applicable
• In the emergency room, may also take vital signs, 12-lead ECG, skin and wound care, assist with orthopedic and suture procedures, perform peripheral phlebotomy, insert IVs for saline locks, insert Foley catheters and carry out point-of-care testing

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program, or equivalent
• Current national license and current BLS certification
• Current ACLS or PALS certification; Master's degree in a relevant clinical field preferred
• Current CPR preferred
• At least two years of experience as a respiratory therapist
• Ability to speak and write in English; speaking and writing in both English and Arabic is preferred
