Senior Backend Developer

About the role

OrbicTrade is an AI-enabled front-office and risk platform for commodity traders, capturing deal intent and turning it into structured, integration-ready trades that connect with existing CTRM, ERP and data platforms. It is looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join its growing product team in Dubai. You will build the services behind OrbicTrade (AI extraction, trade workflow, validation, integration and risk) and work closely with front-end engineers, business analysts, application support and client technology teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain secure, scalable backend services and REST APIs.
• Develop the AI extraction pipeline that turns emails, chats and documents into structured trade data, with grounding, validation and confidence scoring using reference data and RAG.
• Build workflow services for review, four-eyes approval, confirmations, amendments and trade versioning.
• Integrate with CTRM, ERP, contract-management, market-data and data-lake platforms.
• Implement asynchronous processing with queues, webhooks, retries, idempotency and reconciliation.
• Design and maintain PostgreSQL data models, including the canonical trade model and audit trail.
• Support the VaR module, including position feeds, market data and overnight risk runs.
• Run services on AWS using containers, with secure deployment patterns suitable for client-hosted AWS or Azure environments.
• Add logging, monitoring and alerting to every service, and apply secure engineering practices for authentication, authorisation, encryption and secrets management.
• Write automated tests, maintain CI/CD pipelines, support production issue resolution as L3 escalation, and take part in design reviews.

Required profile

• At least 7 years of hands-on backend development experience.
• Strong Python experience, including REST APIs and event-driven or asynchronous systems.
• Production experience on AWS (ECS, Aurora, S3, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager).
• Experience integrating enterprise systems, including mapping, error handling and reconciliation.
• Experience supporting production systems and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
