Senior Engineer – Vertical Transportation (VT)

About the role
WSP Middle East is looking for a Senior Engineer – Vertical Transportation (VT) to lead the design, specification and delivery of lift, escalator and moving‑walk systems across a wide range of projects in the UAE. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and direct interaction with clients, architects and contractors to ensure high‑quality, compliant and innovative VT solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design and specification of vertical transportation systems, including lifts, escalators, moving walks and specialist equipment.
- Prepare technical reports, drawings, schedules and specifications in line with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Review and validate VT designs produced by internal and external parties, ensuring compliance with codes and best practice.
- Coordinate with MEP, architecture, structural and BIM disciplines as well as external VT suppliers.
- Support tender evaluations, technical submissions and contractor clarifications.
- Provide on‑site support during inspections, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to business development activities such as proposals and client presentations.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in VT design and consultancy, preferably in the Middle East.
- Proven track record delivering VT systems on large‑scale, complex developments.
- Strong knowledge of international and regional codes (EN, ISO, BS) and local authority requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting programme, quality and commercial targets.
- Chartered Engineer status or active progress toward accreditation is highly desirable.
Required skills
- Vertical transportation system design (lifts, escalators, moving walks).
- Knowledge of EN, ISO and BS codes and local Middle East regulations.
- BIM coordination and integration with MEP, architectural and structural models.
- Technical reporting, drawing preparation and specification writing.
- Project management and stakeholder liaison.
