Senior In-house Legal Counsel

About the role

Deriv is looking for a Senior In-house Legal Counsel to minimise legal risk across its fast‑growing fintech operations. You will be responsible for shaping legal decisions that enable product launches, partnerships and global expansion while protecting the business from exposure.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and manage contracts from inception to termination, ensuring they balance protection with commercial speed.
• Assess and decide on acceptable risk where standard provisions do not fit.
• Lead high‑risk legal matters and develop litigation strategies for novel fintech disputes.
• Provide actionable legal guidance that supports business decisions rather than merely identifying problems.
• Design and implement policies for contract governance and regulatory compliance as the company scales.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to automate contract drafting, legal research and compliance tracking using AI.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years (72 months) of relevant legal experience, preferably in fintech or related regulated industries.
• Proven ability to make judgment calls on complex legal issues with commercial implications.
• Experience managing external counsel and leading litigation strategy.
