Senior Java Software Engineer

About the role

The Senior Java Software Engineer will design, develop and maintain high‑performance Java‑based applications for the Sharjah Digital Department. You will work closely with product managers, developers and cross‑functional teams to deliver robust back‑end solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with development, product and cross‑functional teams to define and implement new features.
• Communicate technical requirements with clients and service providers.
• Design and build scalable back‑end systems using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop and manage Oracle databases and related applications.
• Create and maintain secure APIs (REST and SOAP) and implement authentication mechanisms.
• Implement security and data‑protection settings, including encryption.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code and produce technical documentation.
• Test, debug and resolve software issues to ensure responsiveness and efficiency.
• Stay current with emerging tools and technologies to continuously improve the platform.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, OOP, design patterns, software architecture and database design.
• Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Oracle Database and application servers such as WebLogic or Tomcat.
• Proficiency in building and consuming SOAP and REST web services.
• Familiarity with API security standards (JWT, Spring Security, OAuth2).
• Understanding of SOA and micro‑services architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with Git/BitBucket, Linux environments and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Excellent problem‑solving, debugging and communication skills.
