Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist - Genomics

About the role

The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist – Genomics provides technical oversight and performs high‑complexity molecular and genomic testing within the laboratory’s approved scope. The role ensures accuracy, quality, and timeliness of genomic diagnostic testing while supporting staff development and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and coordinate nucleic acid extraction, PCR/qPCR, library preparation, and next‑generation sequencing workflows, ensuring specimen suitability and traceability.
• Oversee daily technical workflow, monitor turnaround times, and provide guidance to technologists to maintain safe and efficient service delivery.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot genomic equipment and software platforms, coordinating preventive maintenance and vendor support.
• Support verification and validation of new assays, instruments, reagents, and software, documenting accuracy, precision, and analytical performance.
• Conduct quality control, proficiency testing, and external quality assessments; investigate failures and implement corrective actions.
• Lead staff orientation, technical training, competency assessment, and bench‑level coaching; assist with audits and accreditation readiness (CAP, DHA, JCI).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Science, or related discipline.
• Current DHA license/eligibility and professional registration in the home country where applicable.
• Minimum five years of recent experience in medical laboratory science or molecular diagnostics, including at least three years in a molecular/genomics laboratory.

Required skills

• Nucleic acid extraction and PCR/qPCR techniques.
• Next‑generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation and workflow management.
• Assay verification/validation, quality control, and proficiency testing.
• Operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of genomic instruments and software platforms.
• Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and bioinformatics interface knowledge.
• Compliance with CAP, DHA, JCI, and ISO 15189 standards.
