Senior Power Electronics Hardware Design Engineer

About the role

EDGE is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Hardware Design Engineer to lead the design, development, integration and qualification of high‑power electronic hardware for motor drives, generator units, starter systems and related propulsion applications. The role covers the full hardware lifecycle from architecture definition through prototype bring‑up and environmental qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Develop power‑electronics architectures and design inverter, rectifier and bridge stages for PMSM, BLDC and brushed DC machines.
• Create gate‑driver, protection and isolation circuits for high‑power switching stages.
• Select power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, GaN) and perform loss, derating and thermal analyses.
• Design magnetics, DC‑link and EMI‑filter stages, and conduct thermal and heatsink sizing.
• Perform schematic design, high‑current/high‑voltage PCB layout and simulation using LTspice, PLECS, PSIM or Simulink.
• Support power‑stage bring‑up, integration and qualification testing in coordination with system, software and test teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in power‑electronics and motor‑drive hardware design.
• Strong knowledge of switching converter topologies and electrical machines (alternators, generators, starters, PMSM, BLDC, BDC).
• Experience with EMC/EMI‑aware design and relevant MIL/RTCA qualification standards.

Required skills

• Power‑electronics architecture and high‑voltage PCB layout.
• Altium Designer, Mentor PADS (or similar).
• LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, Simulink for simulation and verification.
• Thermal analysis, heatsink design and cooling calculations.
• Magnetics design (inductors, transformers, current sensing).
• EMI/EMC design practices.
• MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑704, RTCA/DO‑160, RTCA/DO‑254.
• Power semiconductor selection (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, GaN).
