Service Technician - MaK Medium Speed Diesel Engines

About the role

Caterpillar is hiring a Service Technician for its MaK Middle East FZCO in Dubai, UAE. The technician performs on-board service, maintenance and overhauling of MaK medium speed diesel engines and associated systems, mostly mechanical work, either as part of a team or independently while following health and safety standards. The role is about 60% field work and 40% workshop work, with travel within the UAE and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Servicing, overhauling and repairing MaK medium speed engines and components such as cylinder heads, liners, fuel injection pumps, injectors, coolant and oil pumps, pistons, connecting rods and turbochargers, on board vessels and in power plants.
• Work safely on site and in the workshop, using LOTO and permit-to-work procedures.
• Operate workshop equipment such as hydraulic bolt stretchers, lathes, mills, grinders, lifters and hoists.
• Measure and calibrate engine parts with micrometers, dial indicators, Vernier gauges and feeler gauges.
• Inspect, test and analyse engine components, use crack testing equipment and carry out failure analysis and troubleshooting.
• Replace parts and assemblies without supervision, reassemble components, run quality assurance tests and follow service and maintenance manuals and schematics.
• Prepare detailed service reports and communicate clearly with technical staff, colleagues and customers.

Required profile

• 5 years of experience in marine or powerplant field service, or in workshop servicing and repair of medium speed engine components, or equivalent schooling.
• Good mechanical comprehension and strong communication skills.
• Basic electrical knowledge and good computer skills for technical reports and calibration records.
• Knowledge of LOTO and permit-to-work procedures.
• Ability to speak, read and write in English.
• Desirable: governor and control systems experience (RE and Woodward), UAE driving licence.

Required skills

• Mechanical troubleshooting of diesel engine auxiliary systems such as coolant and lubricating oil systems.
• 5S housekeeping, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and problem-solving approaches.
• Reading engine manuals, system drawings and maintenance job cards.
