Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure

About the role

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Data Platform team, building automation for multi‑cloud and on‑premise data solutions. The role focuses on creating and automating features of data platforms rather than analysing the data itself, and can be performed remotely within European, Middle East, or African time zones.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and automate data platform features using Python.
• Ensure fault‑tolerant replication, TLS, installation, and overall platform reliability.
• Debug issues and engage with upstream open‑source communities.
• Collaborate proactively with a distributed engineering team.
• Travel up to four times a year for internal and external events.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience in software development with Python.
• Experience working on distributed systems.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
• Willingness to travel periodically for company events.
