Specialist Physician – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role

We are seeking a Specialist Physician to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The role involves delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care while supporting the Consultant Physician and supervising junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide diagnosis and treatment for ICU patients in line with best‑practice standards.
• Assist the Consultant Physician in supervising junior medical staff and share responsibility for their patient care.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients regularly, and document clinical information promptly.
• Review investigation results, modify treatment plans as needed, and ensure appropriate patient preparation for procedures, including informed consent.
• Participate in multi‑disciplinary meetings, liaise with other specialties, and support out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.
• Adhere to hospital policies on admissions, consultations, surgical procedures, discharge, and follow‑up.
• Support quality‑improvement initiatives, audit culture, and incident reporting processes.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialist training in intensive care medicine.
• Experience working under the supervision of a Consultant Physician and supervising junior staff.
• Commitment to evidence‑based, patient‑centred care and continuous professional development.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
