Staff Nurse - Medicine and Surgery

About the role

University Hospital Sharjah is recruiting a Staff Nurse for its Medicine and Surgery department. The nurse assesses patient needs, plans, implements and evaluates the plan of care, directs junior and auxiliary team members and delivers safe, quality, ethical nursing care in line with hospital, international and federal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for each patient, prioritising individual needs and delegating within scope of practice
• Assist physicians with examinations and procedures, and document nursing care from admission to discharge
• Provide documented patient and family health education and act as patient advocate with the multidisciplinary team
• Administer prescribed medications safely, including narcotics within scope of practice, and monitor patients, reporting any changes
• Maintain infection control, patient safety and fire safety, and report incidents and equipment faults
• Keep unit and crash cart stock, take part in quality improvement, education and committee activities, and attend mandatory training

Required profile

• BSc Nursing or Diploma of Nursing (at least 3 years of study)
• At least 2 years of post-graduation experience, including 1 year in the current specialty
• Current licence in country of origin and a UAE Ministry of Health licence
• Fluent written and spoken English; spoken Arabic is an advantage

Required skills

• BLS certificate (required within three months of employment)
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Evidence-based nursing practice and collaboration in a multicultural environment

Desirable: Advanced Life Support, previous UAE experience, experience in a commissioning environment or in an internationally accredited hospital, and preceptorship or education programme experience.
