Structural Engineer

About the role

Bureau Veritas is hiring a Structural Engineer within its BNI department, reporting to the BNI Lead, DR Team Leader or Technical Manager. The engineer performs design reviews, technical audits, consultancy and other conformity assessment services, with design appraisal as the most common mission. The role covers concrete, steel, composite, post-tension, high-rise, industrial and marine structures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform design reviews, technical audits, expert studies and other technical services within the field of competence
• Carry out structural reviews of buildings against predefined standards and codes, and prepare technical reports
• Meet with clients and authorities and liaise with designers and project managers
• Evaluate designs with team leader support using 2D/3D software, covering foundations, soil excavations, precast/pre-stressed and steel structures, connections and façade systems
• Produce specifications, analyses (foundation, seismic, wind, superstructure) and calculations (loads, reactions, deflections, load combinations, hand calculations, stress checks, code checks)
• Inspect civil works sites, review material submittals and method statements, and issue weekly and monthly reports
• Take part in long-term activities such as product development, best practices, tender preparation and project execution
• Follow HSE requirements, including the right to stop unsafe work and the duty to report hazards and incidents

Required profile

• University degree in engineering or post-graduate degree
• Minimum 7 years of experience in structural engineering
• Speciality in design review for concrete, steel, composite, post-tension, high-rise, industrial and marine structures
• Good technical reporting skills in English
• Knowledge of international standards (BS, AISC, ACI, IBC) and local circulars
• Ability to interpret finite element modelling results and to carry out structural reviews
• Authorization to stop work when conditions are unsafe, and compliance with HSE policies
