Whole Engine Modelling Engineer II

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer II – Secondary Air Systems & Whole Engine Modelling is responsible for developing and supporting transient thermo‑mechanical models that capture full engine behaviour across mission cycles. The role combines 2D whole‑engine modelling with 1D secondary‑air‑system networks to predict thermal performance, clearances and structural interactions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain 2D axisymmetric thermo‑mechanical models of gas‑turbine engines, translating 3D geometry into efficient 2D representations.
• Implement transient mission profiles (startup, acceleration, steady‑state, shutdown, cooldown) and predict component temperatures, thermal gradients and rotor‑stator clearances.
• Create 1D secondary‑air‑system (SAS) network models, defining cooling flows, leakage paths, cavities and sealing systems using CFD results and empirical correlations.
• Integrate SAS models with whole‑engine models to capture convective heat transfer and transient interactions.
• Use ANSYS, NX Thermal, Thermal Desktop, AxStream and develop simulation workflows with Python or MATLAB, automating model setup and boundary‑condition updates.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 4–7 years of experience in gas‑turbine thermal modelling, secondary‑air‑system or whole‑engine modelling.
• Hands‑on experience with thermal/FEA tools and scripting for simulation automation.
