AI Native Engineer

About the role

Cognizant is looking for an AI‑Native Engineer to lead the integration of generative‑AI tools into the software delivery lifecycle. The role focuses on designing system architectures, writing precise specifications, and orchestrating multi‑agent workflows, allowing AI to act as a collaborative partner rather than a simple autocomplete.

Key responsibilities

• Define high‑level system structures, API contracts and data models before leveraging AI for implementation.
• Author rigorous technical specifications and context rules to guide AI agents toward deterministic outputs.
• Design, build and maintain end‑to‑end Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, including document ingestion, chunking, embedding selection and vector‑store configuration.
• Develop and operate agentic workflows using orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain or AutoGen, implementing tool definitions, routing logic, guardrails and evaluation hooks.
• Establish human‑in‑the‑loop validation gates for high‑risk automated actions and audit AI‑generated code for security, performance and architectural compliance.

Required profile

• Strong mastery of computer‑science fundamentals – data structures, algorithms, distributed systems and system design.
• Proven ability to read, evaluate and critique AI‑generated code across multiple languages.
• Hands‑on production experience building multi‑agent orchestration pipelines and supervisor/routing patterns.
• Practical expertise in designing and evaluating RAG pipelines, vector stores and hybrid retrieval strategies.
• Deep familiarity with AI‑native development environments and command‑line agentic tools.
