Head of Legal – GCC & North Africa

About the role

AIG is seeking a senior legal leader to oversee its Gulf and North Africa operations. The Head of Legal will provide pragmatic, high‑quality legal advice that balances commercial sensitivity with regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely, cost‑effective legal support to business stakeholders across the GCC and North Africa cluster.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks within the assigned scope and advise on regulatory developments.
• Ensure transaction documentation and business processes reflect current legislation.
• Brief stakeholders on major legal issues and legislative changes through established reporting.
• Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory interactions and coordinate external counsel on key projects.
• Provide functional advice and training to less‑experienced attorneys.
• Maintain professional relationships with the cluster legal team, operations, and wider AIG legal function.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in commercial and regulatory law within the GCC and North Africa region.
• Proven ability to deliver practical legal solutions in a fast‑paced insurance environment.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an office‑based setting, attending the office four days per week.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of GCC and North African legal frameworks.
• Experience with insurance‑related transactions and regulatory compliance.
• Competence in drafting and reviewing contracts, policies, and regulatory filings.
