Lead Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Wood is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to head the design, specification and procurement of static and rotating equipment packages for its UAE Business Unit in Sharjah. The role will be seconded to a client and will drive the delivery of key engineering projects across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the specification, design and procurement of equipment such as compressors, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, flare packages, vessels, tanks, KODs and drain pots.
• Ensure all designs comply with project requirements, API and ASME standards and client specifications.
• Support planning, scheduling and man‑hour estimating for bid and tender activities.
• Supervise discipline personnel, approve timesheets, holidays and overtime, and manage manpower allocation.
• Monitor and report progress against mechanical engineering and design budgets, identifying and correcting any issues.
• Coordinate with licensors, equipment vendors, OEMs and third‑party contractors to secure technical data, drawings and cost estimates.
• Develop and review package specifications, data sheets and technical bid evaluations.
• Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery and integration of equipment packages.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading mechanical engineering packages for static and rotating equipment.
• Strong knowledge of API and ASME standards and ability to apply them to project designs.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and oversee project schedules and budgets.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with clients, vendors and internal stakeholders.
