Principal Piping Engineer

About the role

The Principal Piping Engineer will lead complex piping design activities for oil and gas projects in Dubai. Reporting to the Project Lead Engineer, this senior specialist works independently, applying best practices to solve technical challenges and ensure compliance with McDermott standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform conceptual, FEED and detailed design analyses, preparing calculations, reports and design documentation.
• Lead medium to large engineering and design teams, managing scope, schedule, budget and resource allocation.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, certifying authorities and vendors to align deliverables and resolve interface issues.
• Review and approve design philosophies, pipe supports, material requisitions and MTOs, ensuring adherence to project specifications.
• Monitor KPIs, support internal and external audits, and drive corrective actions when needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 15‑20 years of piping engineering experience in oil & gas, including FEED and EPC projects.
• Previous experience as Lead Piping Engineer on multi‑office projects.
• Familiarity with international codes such as ANSI, ASME, API, BS and NFPA.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SP3D, E3D and Navisworks.
• Knowledge of pipe stress analysis, support design and material engineering.
• Experience with MTO preparation and detailed design documentation.
• Strong understanding of industry standards and codes (ANSI, ASME, API, BS, NFPA).
