Senior Design Engineer – Downhole Completion Tools

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of downhole and completion tools for a global oil‑and‑gas client. Based in Dubai, the role covers the full product lifecycle from concept through to testing and qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop downhole and completion equipment, including packer‑related products.
• Create and review engineering drawings, calculations and technical documentation.
• Lead design reviews and support new product development activities.
• Define design acceptance criteria aligned with customer and industry requirements.
• Support prototype manufacture, assembly, testing and product qualification.
• Develop assembly, disassembly and redress procedures.
• Prepare engineering test requests and technical reports.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, operations and management throughout the product lifecycle.
• Manage engineering modifications and ensure controlled communication of design changes.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience designing equipment for the oil and gas industry, preferably downhole tools and completion equipment.
• Strong knowledge of API manufacturing principles and standards such as API 11D1.
• Proven ability to work in a multinational environment and communicate effectively in English.

Required skills

• Mechanical CAD/design packages (AutoCAD, CADWorx or similar).
• Design calculations for completion equipment.
• Understanding of downhole tool design and packer design.
• Familiarity with API standards, especially API 11D1.
• Practical experience with prototype testing and product qualification.
