Staff Software Engineer – Architecture

About the role

Careem is seeking a Staff Software Engineer focused on architecture to lead the design and delivery of its Careem Pay wallet and in‑house ledger. You will work on a distributed transactional system built with modern cloud and blockchain‑inspired technologies, guiding both internal teams and external customers.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted technical advisor for complex cloud infrastructure, database, and DevOps challenges across Careem domains.
• Design end‑to‑end architecture that meets best‑practice, compliance, regulatory, and privacy standards.
• Integrate components into a fully functional, validated system and ensure high‑quality software verification.
• Document architectures, review code, and produce tutorials, blog posts, and technical presentations for varied audiences.
• Coach engineers on methodology, tool selection, and technology choices to raise the technical bar.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of experience delivering client‑facing consulting projects and handling technical troubleshooting.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining production‑grade, internet‑facing applications in distributed, virtualized or containerized environments.
• Strong background in backend development with Java, Spring Boot, Go, or similar languages.
