Vessel Operator – Dry Bulk

About the role

An established international shipping and commodities business is seeking an experienced Vessel Operator to manage dry‑bulk voyages from post‑fixture through to completion. The role offers ownership of end‑to‑end operational execution in a fast‑paced, global trading environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate loading, discharge, cargo intake, stowage plans, itineraries and voyage schedules.
• Issue voyage instructions to masters, owners and agents in line with charter‑party terms.
• Appoint and manage port agents, monitoring vessel turnaround and cargo operations to minimise delays.
• Calculate bunker requirements and coordinate bunker planning with procurement and vessel command.
• Maintain proactive communication with customers, providing operational updates and voyage notifications.
• Prepare and handle shipping documentation such as Bills of Lading, Mate’s Receipts and Cargo Manifests.
• Prepare freight, laytime, demurrage, detention and dead‑freight calculations and ensure accurate voyage accounting.
• Monitor voyage profitability by recording port costs, bunker consumption and expenses.
• Coordinate insurance matters, P&I requirements, war‑risk cover and claims handling where required.
• Identify operational risks and resolve issues to ensure efficient voyage performance and customer satisfaction.

Required profile

• 4‑10+ years of vessel operations experience in dry bulk, breakbulk or commodity shipping.
• Strong understanding of charter parties, laytime calculations and voyage execution.
• Knowledge of shipping documentation, cargo operations and port agency management.
• Commercially aware with excellent planning and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple voyages simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication skills for dealing with customers, owners, agents and internal stakeholders in a multicultural team.
• High attention to detail and a proactive, solutions‑oriented approach.
