Director, BAU Payroll & SaaS Operations

About the role

Lead the transformation of Mercans' global payroll operation into a platform‑led, offshore‑first, automated service. This hands‑on, grass‑roots position reports initially to the Group CEO and later to the Business Unit Managing Director, driving a country‑agnostic operating model and strategic client partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a country‑agnostic, platform‑based payroll run‑cycle, removing single‑expert dependency.
• Build an offshore‑first, fungible workforce with cross‑training and “2‑deep” coverage in every country.
• Enable self‑service and data ownership for customers, shifting engagement to a strategic advisory model.
• Automate manual and country‑variable steps, deploy AI for knowledge and anomaly detection, and establish robust quality governance.
• Migrate all clients onto a single platform to eliminate manual processes and support flexible staffing.

Required profile

• 10+ years leading global payroll outsourcing or SaaS operations, including multi‑regional and offshore delivery.
• Proven experience designing and delivering standardized, offshore‑first, platform‑led operating models.
• Strong expertise in automation, AI application, and process standardisation.
• Deep knowledge of payroll/SaaS platforms, compliance across multiple countries, and integration technologies.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching ability, and resilience under pressure.
