General Accountant – Internal Audit & Contracting Experience

About the role

AL MAIMANA Accounting & Bookkeeping LLC seeks a General Accountant with strong accounting knowledge and internal audit experience, preferably in a contracting or construction environment. The role involves bookkeeping, financial reporting, internal controls, VAT and corporate tax compliance, and client liaison.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate books of accounts, record transactions, reconcile bank, cash, customer, supplier and inter‑company balances, and prepare trial balances.
• Conduct internal audits of accounting records, test controls, identify weaknesses, prepare findings and follow‑up on corrective actions.
• Handle project accounting for construction contracts, including cost tracking, work‑in‑progress, budget vs. actual analysis and project‑wise profit & loss reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, management reports and audit schedules; coordinate with external auditors.
• Manage UAE VAT and Corporate Tax compliance, including preparation of returns, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Communicate professionally with clients, collect documentation, attend meetings and ensure confidentiality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience, with prior internal audit work in a contracting/construction firm preferred.
• Practical bookkeeping, financial reporting and UAE VAT/Corporate Tax knowledge.
• Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CA, CMA or CIA are an advantage.

Required skills

• Double‑entry bookkeeping, general ledger accounting and trial balance preparation.
• Bank reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, journal entries and financial statement preparation.
• Internal audit procedures, internal controls, risk assessment and audit working papers.
• Project accounting, cost control, budget vs. actual analysis and project profitability reporting.
• UAE VAT, UAE Corporate Tax and FTA procedures.
• Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP/Accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, Sage, Tally, Odoo, SAP, Oracle).
