Principal Piping Designer

About the role

The Principal Piping Designer leads the piping design effort for large‑scale projects, ensuring designs meet safety, quality and constructability standards. Working within McDermott procedures, the role coordinates across disciplines and acts as the main point of contact for clients, vendors and subcontractors.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D piping models, guarantee clash‑free coordination with all disciplines.
• Approve drawings, plot plans and other deliverables according to project specifications and McDermott standards.
• Lead the design team, forecast resource needs and ensure tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
• Serve as discipline point of contact in project meetings, client communications and vendor interactions.
• Coordinate 3D model reviews, close review comments and manage change notifications.
• Support the Lead Piping Engineer in progress tracking, technical queries, piping estimates and scope changes.
• Contribute to plant layout narratives and ensure alignment with project scope, schedule and inter‑discipline requirements.
