Retail Merchandiser – Category & Assortment Management

About the role

The Retail Merchandiser will own the commercial performance of assigned product categories across the retail business. You will translate customer, market and sales signals into actionable plans that improve sell‑through, availability, margin and inventory productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Own category and assortment plans through structured range reviews, ensuring product breadth, depth, pricing and timing meet demand and commercial targets.
• Analyse sales, sell‑through, stock cover, margin, markdown and forecast data to identify risks early and drive profitable trading decisions.
• Manage replenishment and allocation recommendations via inventory and merchandising systems to improve availability while controlling overstocks and working capital exposure.
• Partner with buying, sourcing, supply chain, retail operations and marketing to coordinate launches, promotions, seasonal changes and product‑flow priorities.
• Conduct regular trading reviews, convert insights into clear actions, timelines and measurable category improvements.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of merchandising experience within retail, with ownership of assortment planning, stock management and category performance.
• Strong command of retail metrics such as sell‑through, stock cover, margin, markdown, weeks of supply and forecast accuracy.
• Advanced Excel capability and confidence working with merchandising, ERP or business intelligence systems.
• Clear communication and stakeholder‑management skills, able to influence cross‑functional teams.
