Assistant Resident Engineer - Materials

About the role

Parsons is looking for an Assistant Resident Engineer (Materials) to join its site team in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The role reviews and approves contractor-submitted materials and oversees testing and quality control on site.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve (or make recommendations for approval of) all materials submitted by the contractor.
• Supervise and take part in sampling, witness testing, recordkeeping and reporting in line with the Materials Testing Manual, AASHTO standard methods, the Construction Supervision Manual, project plans, specifications and directives.
• Analyze test results promptly, recommend action and report failing or borderline results to the Resident Engineer.
• Follow up on corrective actions, document remedial actions taken to meet specifications, and maintain records of test results and corrective actions.
• Coordinate with the contractor on work priorities and schedules, and check that all delivered materials conform to approved sources and project requirements.
• Monitor the frequency and number of tests required for each operation and track site testing certificates of compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a recognized university.
• 10 to 15 years of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrable experience in materials and quality control on major road, highway and bridge projects.
• Proven experience with infrastructure projects and steel structures and steel bridges.
• Fluent English, written and spoken, with strong technical writing and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control specifications; ability to review and justify material submissions and analyze laboratory and technical reports.
• Ability to carry out acceptance sampling plans, testing and quality measures in line with project specifications.
• Sound knowledge of contractual relationships.
• Computer literacy, including use of project-specific engineering and construction software, data access, record keeping and report generation.
