Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (Consultant/Specialist)

About the role

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist provides comprehensive mental health care for infants, children, and adolescents. The role involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, psychotherapy, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support young patients and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations for children and adolescents.
• Diagnose and treat a range of conditions including ADHD, ASD, anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, behavioral and emotional disorders, tic disorders and Tourette syndrome.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications, and provide psychotherapy and behavioral interventions.
• Educate parents and caregivers about diagnoses, treatment options, and prognosis.
• Collaborate with psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers, nurses, and school personnel.
• Manage psychiatric emergencies such as suicidal ideation, self‑harm, aggression, and psychosis.
• Maintain accurate medical records, participate in case conferences, and ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree with residency in Psychiatry.
• Fellowship or board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
• Valid medical license or eligibility for licensure in the UAE (e.g., DOH/HAAD, DHA, MOH).
• Minimum 3–5 years of post‑specialty clinical experience.
