Gas & Steam Turbine Controls Outage Engineer

About the role

DeveEnergy is looking for an experienced Controls Outage Engineer to act as the on‑site authority for gas and steam turbine control systems during outages, inspections, installations and commissioning worldwide. The role is field‑based with extensive international travel (60‑80% of the year) and reports to the Field Service Team Leader.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the controls scope on major inspections, installations, commissioning and outage execution for GE heavy‑duty gas turbines and associated steam turbine auxiliaries.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve faults on Mark V, Mark VI and Mark VIe turbine control and protection systems, including sequencing, protection logic and HMI issues.
• Configure, back up and restore control system application code; implement Technical Information Letters (TIL) and manage software/firmware updates.
• Review P&IDs, elevation drawings, logic and loop diagrams to plan and execute controls work.
• Inspect and validate turbine auxiliary and protection systems such as lube oil, hydraulic, fuel skids, fire & gas detection and vibration monitoring (e.g., Bently Nevada).
• Conduct pre‑outage readiness assessments and post‑outage startup, commissioning and performance verification.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or Controls Engineering or equivalent experience (8+ years).
• Hands‑on field experience with GE Mark V/VI/VIe turbine control systems and GE heavy‑duty gas turbines.
• Ability to read and apply P&IDs, elevation drawings, logic and loop diagrams independently.
• Willingness to travel extensively worldwide on short notice and possession of a valid passport for GCC and international visas.

Required skills

• GE Mark V, Mark VI, Mark VIe turbine control and protection systems.
• PLC/HMI troubleshooting in live outage environments.
• Backup, restore and configuration of control system application code.
• Knowledge of turbine auxiliary systems: lube oil, hydraulic, fuel gas/liquid skids, fire & gas detection, vibration monitoring (Bently Nevada).
• Interpretation of P&IDs, elevation drawings, logic and loop diagrams.
