Head of Music - Immediate Start

About the role

Aldar Education is recruiting a Head of Music for one of its schools in Abu Dhabi, with an immediate start. Aldar Education educates over 34,000 students across its owned and managed schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, delivering the English National Curriculum, the American Massachusetts State Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The role leads the music department, develops its curriculum and co-curricular programme, and works closely with the academy leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction and development of the department, including vision, data analysis, improvement planning, target setting and self-evaluation
• Develop the curriculum and an enhanced extra and co-curricular programme, and organise events and activities that engage students
• Monitor student progress through data, home learning, lesson observations, work reviews and parental engagement, and support underachieving students
• Ensure schemes of work cover SEN, G&T and EAL students, and review them regularly
• Lead on assessment, moderation and data analysis in line with the MER calendar and quality assurance procedures
• Develop department policies and practices, and represent the department on cross-curricular committees such as EAL links
• Communicate with parents and stakeholders through reports, parent-teacher consultations and other channels
• Manage staff recruitment, deployment and resources, and foster a supportive team culture
• Take part in marketing and liaison activities such as open evenings and events with partner academies

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in the related subject with a PGCE or other teacher qualification
• At least 6 years of teaching experience in the English National Curriculum
• Experience working with students whose English is not their first language
• Clean enhanced DBS check or police clearance
