Inventory Controller – Retail Finance (1‑Year Contract)

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Inventory Controller to join our Retail Finance team on a 1‑year contract. The role focuses on ensuring inventory accuracy, reconciling stock movements, and providing analysis that supports financial and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control inventory movements across warehouses, stores and distribution channels, ensuring balances are accurately reflected in financial systems.
• Investigate discrepancies, reconcile physical counts with system records, and support month‑end and year‑end inventory close activities.
• Coordinate cycle counts and annual stock‑taking, review results and work with operational teams to resolve variances.
• Prepare inventory, aging, shrinkage and variance reports, develop dashboards using Excel and Power BI, and translate data into actionable insights for finance and commercial teams.
• Support internal and external audits, maintain documentation and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field; professional qualifications (CMA, CPA, CIMA) are a plus.
• 3‑5 years of experience in inventory accounting, retail finance or cost accounting, preferably in a fast‑paced, multi‑site retail environment.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder management skills with a continuous‑improvement mindset.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (PivotTables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH, financial modelling).
• Power BI for reporting and dashboard creation.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or JDE.
• Solid understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, inventory valuation and landed‑cost calculations.
